In Australia, there are several national, state and regional cheese and dairy produce competitions that award quality produce.
Australian Grand Dairy Awards
Winning an Australian Grand Dairy Award is the ultimate accolade in the Australian dairy industry as the Australian Grand Dairy Awards is the ‘best of the best’ competition.
To be eligible to enter the Australian Grand Dairy Awards, products must be awarded winning status (gold) in one of a number of nominated competitions throughout the year (including those listed below).
Look for the Australian Grand Dairy Award medals on winning products in the dairy case and deli.

Dairy Industry Association of Australia State Awards
The Dairy Industry Association Australia (DIAA) is the industry’s professional
organisation of members from all areas of the dairy industry including scientific research,
processing, marketing, administration, education and training, product development, engineering,
technology and promotion.
The DIAA hosts annual State and national dairy products competitions that are based on the
entries’ technical merit and are judged by industry experts selected for their specific
dairy product knowledge.
Gold and Silver medal winners are invited to use the images of the medals on their packaging for up
to three years. For gold medal winners, the DIAA competitions act as a gateway to the Australian
Grand Dairy Awards.

Royal Agricultural Society Shows
In most states of Australia, there are long-standing dairy awards run by each Royal Agricultural Society, often linked to the Royal Shows.
Each award system is run independently and focuses on the technical qualities of product entrants.
Gold medallists in these awards are eligible to compete in the Australian Grand Dairy Awards.
Australian Specialist Cheese Awards
Run by the Australian Specialist Cheesemakers’ Association these awards for specialty cheese producers are held in both Melbourne and Sydney.
Champions are eligible to enter the Australian Grand Dairy Awards.

Cheesefest
A cheese competition is part of the Cheesefest alfresco cheese festival held in Adelaide, South Australia annually.
The Grand Champion cheese is eligible for entry into the Australian Grand Dairy Awards.

World Cheese Championship Contest
The World Cheese Championship Contest is held biannually in Wisconsin, USA and attracts around 2000 entrants
from over 20 nations, making it the largest international cheese and butter competition in the world.

Run by the Guild of Fine Food in the UK, the World Cheese Awards are held in conjunction with SHOP,
Ireland’s largest retail food and drink trade show.
